ADRT(1)

NAME

adrt - render BRL-CAD geometry with the ADRT triangle ray tracer

On this page

SYNOPSIS

adrt [options] model.g object [object ...]

DESCRIPTION

The adrt command is a standalone front end to BRL-CAD’s ADRT renderer. It loads the named objects from model.g, converts their evaluated geometry to triangles, frames the model, and writes a rendered image. It provides a compact command-line interface for ADRT’s path, shaded, diagnostic, spall-cone, and cut visualization modes without requiring the distributed ADRT master/slave tools.

The default view uses azimuth 35 degrees, elevation 25 degrees, and a perspective camera. Explicit eye and look-at points may be supplied instead. The output format is selected from the extension of the file named by -o.

OPTIONS

-o file

Write the rendered image to file. Default is adrt.png.

-s N

Set both image dimensions to N pixels. Default is 512.

-w N

Set the image width, overriding the width selected by -s.

-n N

Set the image height, overriding the height selected by -s.

-m mode

Select path, phong, normal, depth, flat, spall, or cut. Default is path.

-H N

Use N samples per pixel in path mode. Default is 32.

-b buffer

Pass a raw initialization string to a mode that accepts one, such as cut or spall. This is an advanced renderer-specific option.

-A angle

Set the full spall-cone angle in degrees. Default is 30.

-a azimuth

Set the view azimuth in degrees. Default is 35.

-e elevation

Set the view elevation in degrees. Default is 25.

-E x,y,z

Set an explicit eye point in model units, overriding -a and -e.

-L x,y,z

Set an explicit look-at point in model units. Default is the model center.

-p angle

Set the perspective half-angle in degrees. Default is 25.

-C r/g/b

Set the environment/sky color with 0-255 components. Default is 230/237/255.

-P N

Use N render threads. By default all available processors are used.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Render with the path tracer
adrt -s 1024 -H 64 -o model.png model.g all.g

Renders all.g into a 1024x1024 PNG with 64 samples per pixel.

Example 2. Inspect surface normals
adrt -m normal -a 45 -e 30 -o normals.png model.g part.r

Renders a diagnostic normal image of part.r from the specified view.

Example 3. Visualize a spall cone
adrt -m spall -A 40 -o spall.png model.g target.r

Uses the spall visualization mode with a 40-degree full cone angle.
