ASC-PLOT3(1)

NAME

asc-plot3 - produce Plot3 instructions from ASCII representation

On this page

SYNOPSIS

asc-plot3 [-h] [-?] [file.in [file.plot3]]

DESCRIPTION

asc-plot3 reads a stream of ASCII data representing Plot3 instructions and converts it to binary plot3(5) format. Standard input is read and standard output is used if file names are not supplied.

The input should consist of lines of the form:

c arg arg ...

where c is one of the single-character Plot3 command names, followed by white-space-separated arguments of appropriate number and type for that command. Optional white space and lines beginning with the comment character `#' are ignored.

OPTIONS

-h, -?

Print a usage message and exit.

file.in

Input ASCII file containing plot3 instructions. If not specified or if '-' is specified, standard input is read.

file.plot3

Output file to write the binary plot3 data. If not specified, standard output is used. Note that asc-plot3 will refuse to write binary plot data to a terminal.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Convert an ASCII plot3 file to binary
asc-plot3 data.asc data.plot3

Converts the ASCII file data.asc into a binary plot3(5) file named data.plot3.

Example 2. Draw a box and view it on a framebuffer
printf 's 0 0 100 100\nm 10 10\nn 90 10\nn 90 90\nn 10 90\nn 10 10\n' | asc-plot3 | plot3-fb

Sets the drawing space to the square (0,0)-(100,100) with the s command, then moves the pen and draws four connected line segments forming a box. The resulting binary plot3 stream is piped directly to plot3-fb(1) for display on a framebuffer.
