DBCLEAN(1)

NAME

dbclean - compact an mged database by removing dead space

On this page

SYNOPSIS

dbclean in_model.g out_model.g

DESCRIPTION

dbclean compacts the input database in_model.g by converting it to ASCII via g2asc(1) and back to binary via asc2g(1), writing the result to out_model.g. This removes gaps left by the kill/killall commands in mged(1).

If either converter skips objects it cannot handle, the conversion still completes and out_model.g is written without those objects.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Compact a database to reclaim dead space
$ dbclean original.g compacted.g

Reads original.g, removes internal gaps, and writes a smaller compacted.g.

SEE ALSO

mged(1), g2asc(1), asc2g(1)

DIAGNOSTICS

Numerous error conditions are possible, usually due to errors in the geometry database. Descriptive messages are printed on standard error (file descriptor 2).
