plot3-asc [-v] [unix_plot]
PLOT3-ASC(1)
NAME
plot3-asc - convert a binary plot3 stream to an editable ASCII listing
On this page
SYNOPSIS
DESCRIPTION
plot3-asc reads a binary plot3(5) stream and writes a human-readable ASCII listing, one plot command per line. Each line begins with the plot command and is followed by its decoded arguments (coordinates, color bytes, or strings). This text form is convenient for inspecting or hand-editing a plot file; the companion tool asc-plot3(1) converts the listing back into binary plot3(5).
The input file is read from unix_plot if a file name is supplied, otherwise from standard input. The ASCII listing is written to standard output.
OPTIONS
- -v
-
Verbose mode. Replace each single-character plot command with its mnemonic name (for example move, line, space, color) rather than the raw letter, and on completion write a summary of how many times each command was used to standard error.
EXAMPLES
plot3-asc -v drawing.plot3
Lists every command in drawing.plot3 using mnemonic names and prints a usage tally to standard error, making it easy to see what the plot contains.
plot3-asc drawing.plot3 > drawing.asc
# edit drawing.asc with any text editor, then convert back
asc-plot3 < drawing.asc > edited.plot3
Converts a binary plot to ASCII, allowing the geometry to be tweaked by hand, then asc-plot3(1) reassembles the edited listing into a binary plot3(5) stream.
