AET(nged)
NAME
aet, ae - get or set the view orientation as azimuth, elevation, and twist
On this page
SYNOPSIS
DESCRIPTION
The aet command (also available as ae) gets or sets the current view orientation expressed as azimuth, elevation, and optional twist angles in degrees.
With no arguments, aet returns the current view orientation as three space-separated floating-point values: az el tw.
With arguments, aet sets the view rotation to the specified azimuth and elevation (and optional twist), then updates the display.
-
Azimuth (
az) — horizontal rotation about the vertical axis, in degrees. 0° looks from the front; 90° looks from the right. -
Elevation (
el) — vertical angle above or below the horizontal plane, in degrees. 90° looks straight down. -
Twist (
tw) — roll rotation about the viewing axis, in degrees. Optional; defaults to 0° if omitted.
Options
- -i
-
Treat the given angles as incremental offsets added to the current azimuth, elevation, and twist rather than as absolute values.
Input forms
Angles may be given as two or three separate arguments (az el or az el tw), or as a single quoted space-separated string ("az el" or "az el tw"). In all forms, if twist is omitted it defaults to 0.
EXAMPLES
mged> aet
Returns the current azimuth, elevation, and twist in degrees, for example: 35 25 0.
mged> aet 35 25
Sets the view to azimuth 35°, elevation 25°, twist 0°.
mged> aet 45 30 15
Sets the view to azimuth 45°, elevation 30°, twist 15°.
mged> aet -i 10 0
Adds 10° to the current azimuth without changing elevation or twist.
mged> aet "270 0"
Sets the view to look from the left side (azimuth 270°, elevation 0°).
