GROUP(nged)

NAME

group, g - create or extend a non-region combination with specified members

On this page

SYNOPSIS

group gname object(s)
g gname object(s)

DESCRIPTION

The group command (also available as g) creates a new non-region combination named gname containing the specified objects as union members. If gname already exists, the listed objects are appended to it as additional union members.

All members are added with the union (u) Boolean operator and no transformation matrix. At least one object name must be provided in addition to gname.

To create a region (rather than a plain combination), use the region or r command instead. To create a combination with specific Boolean operators, use comb or c.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Create a new group from two objects

mged> group vehicle.c hull.r turret.r

Creates a new combination vehicle.c with hull.r and turret.r as union members.

Example 2. Use the short alias

mged> g assembly.c part1.r part2.r part3.r

Creates assembly.c containing three union members using the short g alias.

Example 3. Append to an existing group

mged> group vehicle.c wheels.r

Adds wheels.r as a union member to the existing combination vehicle.c.
