INSTANCE(nged)

NAME

instance, i - add an object instance to a combination with a Boolean operator

On this page

SYNOPSIS

instance obj comb [op]
i obj comb [op]

DESCRIPTION

The instance command (also available as i) adds obj as a member of the combination comb using the specified Boolean operator op. No transformation matrix is applied — the object is instanced at the identity position.

The optional op argument specifies the Boolean relationship:

  • u — union (default if op is omitted)

  • - — subtraction

  • + — intersection

The combination comb must already exist. To create a new combination at the same time, use group, comb, or region.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Add an object to a combination as a union member

mged> instance wheel.r vehicle.c

Adds wheel.r to vehicle.c as a union member (default operator).

Example 2. Add an object as a subtracted member

mged> i hole.s main_body.r -

Subtracts hole.s from main_body.r using the short i alias.

Example 3. Add an intersecting member

mged> instance clipping_box.s hull.r +

Intersects clipping_box.s with hull.r.
