LABELFACE(nged)

NAME

labelface - label the faces of an NMG (Non-Manifold Geometry) object

On this page

SYNOPSIS

labelface object(s)

DESCRIPTION

The labelface command overlays the face index numbers on the wireframe display of one or more NMG (Non-Manifold Geometry) solid primitives. The labels are drawn in the view at the centroid of each face and are stored in an internal overlay named LABELFACE.

The command requires that the specified object(s) be NMG solids that are already drawn in the display. If an object is not NMG, the command returns an error. One or more NMG solid names may be provided.

The face index numbers shown by labelface correspond to the indices used by the nmg kill F subcommand. This makes labelface the standard companion tool for selecting and removing specific faces from an NMG model via their index.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Label faces of an NMG solid

mged> draw my_nmg.s mged> labelface my_nmg.s

Draws my_nmg.s and then overlays its face index numbers in the display. Each face is labeled with its integer index number, which can then be used as the argument to nmg kill F.

Example 2. Use labelface to find and kill a face

mged> labelface my_nmg.s mged> nmg my_nmg.s kill F 4

First labels the faces of my_nmg.s to identify their indices, then removes face index 4 from the model.
