LOADVIEW(nged)

NAME

loadview - Restore a saved MGED view and displayed object list from a saveview-style script.

On this page

SYNOPSIS

loadview filename

DESCRIPTION

The loadview command reads a saveview-style script and restores the view information it contains into the current MGED session. It is intended for scripts produced by saveview.

The command requires an already opened database and an active view. It does not open the database named in the script. Instead, it compares the script’s database pathname against the currently opened database and issues a warning if they differ.

When loadview reads the script, it:

  • resets perspective to off, then reapplies a saved -p perspective value if the script contains one;

  • clears the current display with Z before loading the saved object list;

  • draws the objects listed in the script into the current display;

  • reads the saved view command block and applies the recognized view settings.

The view-command parser accepts the commands used by saveview, including viewsize, eye_pt, orientation, start, clean, and end. It also recognizes lookat_pt and viewrot. The non-view script commands that loadview knows about, such as start and clean, are accepted and ignored for restoration purposes.

View changes are finalized when the script’s end command is processed. If a script uses lookat_pt, it should specify eye_pt first so the view direction can be reconstructed correctly.

EXAMPLES

These examples show how loadview restores a view from a previously saved script.

Example 1. Restore a view saved by saveview.

mged>loadview render.rt

Clears the current display, draws the objects named in render.rt, and restores the saved view parameters from that script.

Example 2. Reload a saved view script after editing it externally.

mged>loadview raycast.sh

Reads the saved view block and object list from raycast.sh and applies the recognized settings to the current MGED session.
