LOG(nged)

NAME

log - used to control logging

On this page

SYNOPSIS

log get|start|stop

DESCRIPTION

The log command controls the capture of bu_log output (BRL-CAD’s internal logging system) to an internal buffer associated with the current session.

The three subcommands are:

  • start : Installs a hook into the bu_log system that intercepts all subsequent log messages and appends them to an internal buffer (ged_log). After calling log start, log messages will accumulate silently in the buffer rather than being printed immediately.

  • stop : Removes the logging hook, restoring normal bu_log output behavior. Messages are no longer captured to the buffer.

  • get : Retrieves and clears the contents of the accumulated log buffer, returning all captured messages since the last log start. The buffer is emptied after this call.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Capture and retrieve log output

mged> log start mged> draw some_object.r mged> log stop mged> log get

Starts capturing log output, draws an object (which may produce internal log messages), stops capturing, then retrieves and prints all log messages that were generated during the draw operation.
