MOVE_ARB_FACE(nged)

NAME

move_arb_face - move an arb's face through pt

On this page

SYNOPSIS

move_arb_face [-r] arb face "x y z"

DESCRIPTION

The move_arb_face command moves a specified face of an ARB (Arbitrary Rectangular Box) solid so that it passes through the given point. The face is translated parallel to itself — the plane’s normal direction is preserved and only the plane’s distance constant (D in the equation N·P = D) is updated. The other vertices of the ARB are then recomputed to maintain the overall ARB shape.

The point is specified as a quoted, space-separated "x y z" triple in local units. The arb argument may be a full database path (e.g. comb/sub/arb.s); the object at the end of the path is used and the path’s transformation matrix is applied.

Face indices are 1-based and the valid range depends on the ARB type:

Options

  • -r : Relative mode. Treats the given point as an offset from the current position of the face’s first vertex, rather than as an absolute model-space coordinate. The offset is added to the existing vertex before updating the plane equation.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Move face 1 of an ARB8 to an absolute point

mged> move_arb_face arb8.s 1 "0 0 50"

Moves face 1 of arb8.s so that the plane of that face passes through model point (0, 0, 50) in local units. The face slides parallel to itself; the ARB vertices are updated accordingly.

Example 2. Move a face by a relative offset

mged> move_arb_face -r arb8.s 3 "5 0 0"

Shifts face 3 of arb8.s by 5 local units along X relative to the face’s current first-vertex position.
