ptranslate [-r] obj attribute "tx ty tz"
PTRANSLATE(nged)
NAME
ptranslate - translate a vector attribute of a primitive
SYNOPSIS
DESCRIPTION
The ptranslate command displaces a specific vector attribute of the BRL-CAD primitive obj by the translation vector (tx, ty, tz). The attribute is identified by a single letter or two-letter code. The modified object is written back to the database.
The arguments are:
-
-r — Optional. Relative mode: the translation vector is added to the current attribute value. Without
-r, the attribute is set to the given vector directly. -
obj — Name of the primitive to edit. Path prefixes (e.g.
comb/part.s) are accepted; the trailing component name is used. -
attribute — A letter or two-letter code selecting which vector attribute of the primitive to translate (see table below).
-
"tx ty tz" — The translation vector as a single quoted space-separated string of three floating-point values in local units.
Supported primitives and attributes
| Primitive | Attribute | Description |
|---|---|---|
TGC (Truncated General Cone) |
|
Translate the height vector. The cross-section vectors (A, B, C, D) are recomputed to remain perpendicular to the new height. |
TGC |
|
Translate the height vector and redefine the reference vertex so the base stays fixed. |
EXTRUDE |
|
Translate the extrusion direction vector. The sketch reference vectors (u_vec, v_vec) are recomputed to remain perpendicular to the new height. |
EXTRUDE |
|
Translate the extrusion direction vector and redefine the reference vertex. |
Only TGC and EXTRUDE are currently supported. Other primitive types return an error.
EXAMPLES
mged> ptranslate cone.s h "0 0 100"
Displaces the height vector of the TGC primitive cone.s by 100 units in the Z direction (absolute). Cross-section axes are recomputed to remain perpendicular to the new height.
mged> ptranslate -r wall.s h "10 0 0"
Adds (10, 0, 0) to the current extrusion direction vector of the EXTRUDE primitive wall.s.
