SCREENGRAB(nged)

NAME

screengrab - Save the current MGED display visual or framebuffer contents to an image file.

On this page

SYNOPSIS

screengrab [-F] [-D name] [--format fmt] image_file

DESCRIPTION

Generates an image file containing the current display manager’s rendered scene. When -F is specified, captures the embedded framebuffer instead.

image_file is required. The output format is inferred from the file extension; use --format to override.

This command is also available as screen_grab (with an underscore). Both names invoke identical behavior.

Options

-F, --fb

Capture the embedded framebuffer instead of the display manager scene.

-D name, --dm name

Specify the name of the display manager to capture. If omitted, the active display manager is used.

--format fmt

Force the output image format (e.g. png, jpg). If not specified, the format is inferred from the file extension.

-h

Print usage help.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Write a PNG image file of the MGED framebuffer contents.

mged> screengrab -F fb.png

Writes the contents of the active MGED framebuffer to the image file fb.png.

Example 2. Capture a specific named display manager

mged> screengrab -D Mged0 output.png

Captures the display manager named Mged0 to output.png.

Example 3. Capture the scene display (default, no flags needed)

mged> screengrab scene.png

Writes the current display manager’s rendered scene to scene.png.

Example 4. Force JPEG format regardless of extension

mged> screengrab --format jpg view.img

Writes the display manager scene to view.img in JPEG format.
