SOLIDS_ON_RAY(nged)

NAME

solids_on_ray - list all primitives intersected by a ray through a display point

On this page

SYNOPSIS

solids_on_ray h v

DESCRIPTION

The solids_on_ray command fires a ray through the current view from the screen position (h, v) expressed in normalized display coordinates (where 0,0 is the view center) and reports all primitive solids intersected by that ray.

The ray originates from the current view center and travels in the viewing direction at the specified screen offset. All currently displayed objects are tested for intersection.

Both h and v arguments are required; omitting them returns a usage error. Values must be within the valid display bounds.

The output lists the full paths of all primitives hit, in the order they are encountered along the ray.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Find solids at the center of the view

mged> solids_on_ray 0 0

Fires a ray through the center of the current view and lists all primitive solids along that ray.

Example 2. Find solids at an offset position

mged> solids_on_ray 100 50

Fires a ray 100 units right and 50 units up from the view center and lists the intersected primitives.
