WHATID(nged)

NAME

whatid - report the region identifier (ident) of a region

On this page

SYNOPSIS

whatid region

DESCRIPTION

The whatid command returns the region identifier number (ident) of the specified region. Exactly one region name must be provided. The named object must exist in the database and must be a region (a combination with the region flag set).

The result is returned as an integer. If the named object does not exist or is not a region, an error is reported.

This is the inverse of whichid, which takes a region ID and returns the regions that use it.

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Get the region ID of a named region

mged> whatid hull.r

Returns the integer region ID assigned to hull.r, for example: 1001.

Example 2. Use the result in a Tcl variable

mged> set id [whatid turret.r] mged> whichid $id

Retrieves the region ID of turret.r into a variable, then uses whichid to verify which regions share that ID.
