YPR(nged)

NAME

ypr - get or set the view orientation as yaw, pitch, and roll angles

On this page

SYNOPSIS

ypr
ypr yaw pitch roll

DESCRIPTION

The ypr command gets or sets the current view orientation expressed as yaw, pitch, and roll angles in degrees.

With no arguments, ypr returns the current view orientation as three space-separated floating-point values: yaw pitch roll, in degrees.

With three arguments, ypr sets the view rotation to the specified yaw, pitch, and roll values and updates the display.

Angles are in degrees:

  • Yaw — rotation about the vertical (Z) axis. Positive yaw rotates the view to the right.

  • Pitch — rotation about the lateral (Y) axis. Positive pitch tilts the view upward.

  • Roll — rotation about the depth (X) axis. Positive roll rotates the view clockwise.

Any number of arguments other than 0 or 3 returns a usage error.

This command is also accessible as a subcommand of view_func: view_func ypr [yaw pitch roll].

EXAMPLES

Example 1. Get the current view orientation

mged> ypr

Returns the current view yaw, pitch, and roll in degrees, for example: 35.0 25.0 0.0.

Example 2. Set the view to a specific yaw/pitch/roll

mged> ypr 45 30 0

Sets the view to a yaw of 45°, pitch of 30°, and roll of 0°.

Example 3. Save and restore view orientation

mged> set orientation [ypr] mged> ypr 90 0 0 mged> ypr {*}$orientation

Saves the current orientation, applies a temporary 90° yaw, then restores the original orientation.
